The Safe Room is run by Aidid and Candy. Aidid, who used to be a graphic designer, was in love with nitrogen ice cream when he first tried it in overseas few years ago. He missed the taste so much and travel all the way there to try it again and again. In 2013, he invited Candy, a girl who loves cooking, to run a café. That is the birth story of the nitrogen ice cream for The Safe Room.
The goal of this cafe is to provide a hang-out place where you can find healthy desserts. All the ingredients used to prepare the food and beverages are sourced from a nearby market on a daily basis to ensure the freshness and every dish is prepared immediately once the order is placed.
There is a story behind The Safe Room. Prior to the cafe business, the shop owner was running a gold business. Aidid kept the original safe room. Instead of keeping valuable gold, now, it keeps something more valuable, which is love.
In August 2014, the first level of The Safe Room was renovated into a platform for local artists to showcase their music performance. Aidid believes live band can become an additional service for customers who visit his cafe.
The atmosphere at ground floor and level 1 are totally different. During the days without live band, level one will play some comedy short clips or videos.
The must-order item is nitrogen dessert and Dragon’s Breath is the most popular among the various choices available. The golden yellow layer of caramel covering the popcorn, like the emperor’s robe is the first and only dessert in Malaysia. When the caramelized popcorn is infused with -200c liquid nitrogen, the vapour creates the visual like breathing!
The special thing about the liquid nitrogen ice cream is that it is cooler and smoother than gelato. However, as the ice cream is liquid nitrogen based, it melts faster compare with the normal frozen ice cream. Recommended to order different flavors and share with friends.
The taste is fresh coconut instead of thick old coconut flavor. Though Aidid and Candy did try to use a recipe with stronger coconut flavor, most of the customers prefer the fresh and young coconut taste.
Guava Mojito is the best selling drink here. It’s guava juice with mint and lemon. For mint lovers, you can request stronger mint upon taking the order.
Besides nitrogen beverage, this cafe serves German Naturalis Tea. Rosehip tastes well with Dragon’s Breath. There is a tip for tasting the tea, feel free to check with the friendly staff.
The Safe Room provides awesome main dishes. It is rare that a café is able to serve dishes with such high standard.
The wild mushroom sauce is superb. The brick shaped salmon is juicy with the right texture.
This dish was not listed in the menu initially. However, after serving in several private events, the good customer feedback make it a permanent dish. Chicken chop is a very common dish, but the chicken here is soft, juicy and tasty. We can feel layers of the skin, fat and meat in every bite. That is the amazing part of this dish.
Homemade Cempedak Cake is made from fresh cempedak, free from artificial coloring and flavoring, served with vanilla ice-cream.
The Safe Room provides wide varieties of food, coffee, non-caffeine drinks, desserts, fresh fruit liquid nitrogen ice creams and coffee ice creams.
Aidid and Candy let their chef be fully in charge in the kitchen. Sometimes, the chef will prepare some special dishes based on the daily fresh ingredients purchase from the market. The pastry section sometimes offers homemade dessert that is not listed in the menu.
The Safe Room gained the customer loyalty with their good customer service. The team is quite alert to customers’ movement.
Most of the customer not only re-visit The Safe Room for the nitrogen dessert but also bring their friends and family to taste the Dragon’s Breath.
