Spoon Café is an all-day dining place in G Hotel Kelawai. To suit the theme of G Hotel Kelawai, “Style… Redefined”, Spoon Café is particular in every aspect from the flooring, lighting, utensils, dining table, and seating. According to the team, the aesthetic circus pendant lights gives sophistication to the ambiance. The selection of the utensils is also believed to improve the guests dining experience.

Classy Interior

The design of the café features Peranakan motif cement tiles on its flooring, wooden dining tables and chairs. Reminiscent of a French Bistro, it comes with 120 seating capacity that plays host to a myriad of cuisines.

You can find mountain top scenery which gives a relaxing mood that helps to stimulate your appetite.

About the Chef

The café is led by Executive Sous Chef, Ong Ban Khoon who is specializing in Asian cuisine. Chef Ong told us that he is very particular on the dining experience for different types of guests. If you look around, you will realize the food preparation or decoration are not only in fine dining setting, they appeal to the kids as well. This thoughtfulness makes us recommend Spoon Café for family dining especially with kids.

Do find some surprises from the kitchen as small portions of food are dished up each time, there might be some slightly different cooking methods using the same ingredient. The reason why the kitchen make it so “troublesome” to serve small portion is to ensure the freshness and quality of the food and minimize waste as well.

Buffet Dinner

Spoon Café regularly changes the theme of their buffet. The one when we visited is named Seafood Friday’s Catch BBQ Dinner.

A variety of cheeses are available for tasting. It can be consumed with toasted bread, fruit or pickles.

Freshly made bread is a perfect match with cheese and soup.

Pepes Seafood is one of the signature dishes. Pepes is an Indonesian cooking method using banana leaf to wrap the food. This cooking technique allows the rich spices mixture to be compressed against the seafood inside the wrapping, adding a distinct aroma of the cooked banana leaf.

Baked fish is another recommended dish. A big slice of fish is baked with a sauce blanket on top. The sauce does not distract the fresh taste of the fish.

Grill Duck Breast with Orange Sauce. The orange sauce is mixed with red dates that tastes fruity sweet and sour and goes well with the grilled duck breast.

The seafood bar features chilled tiger prawns, mussels, scallop on ice to go with special sauces including miso mayonnaise, vinaigrette, tabasco and more.

In addition to this, the new alfresco BBQ station features an extensive seafood choices of Grilled Slipper Lobster with Mint & Chili Flake, Garlic Prawns Skewer, Turmeric Marinated Squid, Salmon Fillet, Mud Crab and many others seasonal catches.

Besides seafood, Chef Ong prepares kid-appealing dishes like barbecue chicken and sausage.

Jk Jam (Left) is a blend of orange juice, pineapple juice, mango juice, lime juice, grenadine.

Chili Lada (back) is a cocktail containing vodka, cranberry, passion fruit puree and lime muddled with red chili. The chili fragrant is strong but doesn’t taste spicy.

Lychee Smash (Front), Heritage Cocktails has stronger alcohol taste that overshadowed the mint and lychee flavor.

Dessert Bar

Chef Lim is the person leading the dessert and bakery corner. His dessert tastes really fresh and delicious.

The caramelize banana is really nice!

Cream Caramel is so smooth and does not taste too sweet.

This is ice cream with cute presentation!
