Macallum Connoisseurs gains a lot of attention since the opening in early 2015 with many attractive food photos spreading around Facebook and Instagram.

This cafe can be easily seen just beside Lim Chong Eu Expressway. Since there is imited car park available, it is recommended to visit during breakfast or hi-tea time.

Macallum Connoisseurs occupies a big space for customer dining area. Their furniture selections are least comfortable for relaxing but a good place for work away from office. The overall environment is more formal and disciplined.

Dishes We Tried

Rose Latte is suitable for those not used to drinking black coffee. Equally, it is slightly sweet for those who used to drink black coffee. Initially, we thought only the name and outlook is attractive. However, the taste exceeded our expectation. The flavor is moderate and relaxing with rose fragrance. It is a good coffee to start a good day!

Macallum Connoisseurs have their very own character on their food display. That’s why you can find a lot of nice photos in their Facebook. The price is slightly higher, but with compatible portion. It is recommended for 2 people to share a main dish. Most of the ingredients in this dish are common, but the avocado spread, and the passion fruit salad dressing are what make this dish to be remembered.

Smoked Salmon Bagel is quite commonly served in Penang’s cafes nowadays. The special part of the Macallum Connoisseurs’ version is wasabi cream cheese which goes quite well with the smoked salmon, but not as good as the raw salmon. The bagel itself, well, is crunchy on the outside and warm and sof inside. Slightly disappointed with the poppy seeds though. It should smell and taste poppy, but, it is not.

The chef added spices in the salad and tastes unique and nice. The sauce is additional as the wasabi cream cheese, smoked salmon and the salad are flavorful enough. The price is slightly high, but with the big portion, this dish is cheaper compared with others café.

Besides Smoked Salmon Bagel, the waiter recommended Salad Bagel (grilled mushroom/ scrambled eggs) too.
